Services
The Community Legal Education (CLE) unit at VALS is active in the
areas of legal education, community development and criminal justice
reform. It aims to help strengthen Indigenous communities in Victoria
in their struggle towards self-determination and self-direction.
The CLE unit
works together with Indigenous communities to give people the opportunity
to raise justice issues and explore ways in which the criminal justice
system can be made for equitable for Indigenous people. The unit
also seeks to change attitudes within mainstream services, such
as the police, courts, and government departments.
Throughout 2003,
the CLE unit will hold workshops around the kit Be Strong, Use Your
Rights. The kit outlines the options for making complaints about
services, products and abuses such as racial discrimination.
The CLE unit
is available to hold workshops around justice issues. For more information
