Aboriginal Families Practice

Our Aboriginal Families Practice provides legal advice and representation. The types of matters we can assist with include:

• Family Law – legal advice, assistance and representation about parenting arrangements for your children after you separate; including agreements or court orders about responsibility, who the children will live with, time children will spend with each parent, holiday arrangements, and safety concerns. We can also assist with name changes, passport applications where the other parent refuses to agree, recovery of children if they are taken from you without consent, paternity and child support issues.
  
  
• Child Protection – If you are contacted by a child safety worker, or a child safety officer has removed your child from your care call for advice as soon as possible. We can assist with early intervention, legal advice and representation if your matter is taken to Court. You should seek legal advice from us before signing any agreement a child safety officer asks you to sign. This applies to your unborn child as well. Our lawyers can arrange to meet with you at the hospital if required.
  
  
• Family Violence Intervention Orders (FVIO) – if you have a child protection or family law matter, or have one coming up, we can assist with family violence protection; including making an application for an order, defending an application, or varying or discharging a current order.
  
  
• Divorce Proceedings – We can provide legal advice about filing for divorce; including where to find the application form, what information you need, and whether there are any barriers to the divorce being granted.
