VALS’ approach to quality management ensures that systems, processes, procedures, and risk management elements are embedded within oversight by the Board with all governance and decision-making processes.

All VALS staff, volunteers and Board members are required to align our work to the Mandatory Standards of NACLC’s National Professional Indemnity Insurance Scheme, which are also Standards for Certification and Accreditation under the National Accreditation Scheme for Community Legal Centres.

The Guide to Risk Management in legal practice for Community Legal Centres and other Legal Assistance Services informs our approach to risk and quality management. In addition, a risk register is maintained and tabled at Board meetings to ensure we embed improvement measures and analyse client facing, operational and corporate risks.
