Our Community Justice Programs (CJP) team is staffed by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people who provide culturally safe services to our clients and community.
Baggarrook:
The Baggarrook program is designed to support highly vulnerable Aboriginal women as they transition from prison
and back into community.
Community Legal Education:
VALS is committed to ongoing Community Legal Education (CLE). We believe that information about legal issues and services is a powerful tool that empowers our community to navigate legal issues as they arise.
Family Violence CSO:
Our Client Service Officers (CSOs) are key connectors for our clients and local communities to VALS legal assistance.

Regional CSO Program:
Our regional CSOs provide essential services in connecting our lawyers to their clients and the local communities. Regional CSOs spend the majority of their time traveling across the state to various regional courts, supporting people prior to, at and after court.
Additional Regional Programs:
VALS Client Service Officers (CSO) are the key cultural interface between Aboriginal Community members, VALS’ lawyers and the court.

VPER (E-Referral):
The VALS VPer Program Officer plays a crucial role in assisting community members with non-custody issues.
VPer referrals are consented referrals during non-crisis incidents but are often received at a time of heightened emotional stress for clients.
Aboriginal Community Justice Reports:
The Project aims to reduce the overincarceration of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and improve sentencing processes and outcomes for Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander defendants.
